Properties: Good Fortune, Happiness, Protection
Chicken Bloodstone (the informal name of Changhua or Balinyouqi stone) is a stone that has been used for centuries in China. Legend states that a golden pheasant was bitten by a snake while flying over a mountain. The blood then dripped from the pheasant and into the crack of the mountain creating Chicken Bloodstone. Chicken Bloodstone is considered a powerful talisman against evil and is believed to be more effective than Jade. Because the color red is considered an auspicious color in the Chinese culture, a form of Chicken Bloodstone is often given as a gift to newlyweds symbolizing good fortune, prosperity, and happiness. Chicken Bloodstone is not considered a crystal, but a rock due to its make up of clay, quartz, and varying amounts of Cinnabar which gives the stone its red streak pattern.
* Due to the toxicity of Cinnabar, this stone should not be crushed into a dust, or be used directly in water for any reason.
** Cinnabar’s red color will fade to brown if left in the sunlight.
