INDIGO GABBRO PALM STONE
INDIGO GABBRO PALM STONE
Indigo Gabbro
This stunning Indigo Gabbro Palm Stone is perfectly shaped to hold during meditation — its dramatic swirls of deep indigo, black, grey, and white make it one of the most visually striking stones available, and its powerful energy for psychic development and shadow work makes it equally compelling to work with.
Note: Indigo Gabbro is also widely known as Mystic Merlinite in the crystal market — a trade name given to it for its association with magic, mystery, and the integration of light and shadow. Both names refer to the same stone.
Where It Is Found
Indigo Gabbro is found primarily in Madagascar, which is the main commercial source of this stone. It has also been found in Alaska, USA, where it occurs in similar geological settings.
Mineral Class / Geology
Indigo Gabbro is a coarse-grained mafic igneous rock — specifically a variety of Gabbro, the intrusive (plutonic) equivalent of basalt. It is composed of a complex mixture of minerals including feldspar (primarily plagioclase), pyroxene, chlorite, serpentine, muscovite, magnetite, and other accessory minerals. Its hardness varies from approximately 5–7 on the Mohs scale depending on its mineral composition. Gabbro forms when mafic magma cools slowly deep within the Earth's crust, allowing large crystals to develop. The distinctive indigo-blue to purple coloring is caused by the presence of chlorite and other secondary minerals within the feldspar matrix. The dramatic black and white patterning reflects the interplay of dark mafic minerals (pyroxene, magnetite) and lighter felsic minerals (feldspar, muscovite).
Colors
Indigo Gabbro displays a dramatic and immediately distinctive palette of deep indigo-blue to purple, black, grey, and white — often in bold, swirling, cloud-like patterns that create a striking contrast of light and dark. The indigo-blue color is especially vivid in polished specimens. No two pieces display exactly the same pattern.
Metaphysical Properties
Indigo Gabbro (Mystic Merlinite) is known as the Stone of Magic, Shadow Integration, and Psychic Awakening. Its dramatic interplay of light and dark colors is reflected in its metaphysical nature — it is a stone that works with both the light and shadow aspects of the self. It resonates with the Third Eye and Crown Chakras and is used to awaken and enhance psychic abilities and intuition, support deep shadow work and the integration of the unconscious, enhance magical abilities and connection to earth magic, facilitate access to past lives and the Akashic records, support spiritual growth through the honest examination of one's full self — light and shadow alike, and connect with the wisdom of ancient and elemental forces.
