Where It Is Found
K2 Stone is found exclusively in the foothills of the Karakoram mountain range in northern Pakistan, near the base of K2 — the world's second-highest and arguably most challenging mountain to climb. Its remote, high-altitude source location makes it one of the most geographically exclusive stones in the crystal market. The combination of white Granite and blue Azurite found in this specific location is unique to this deposit.
Mineral Class / Geology
K2 Stone is a combination rock composed of two distinct geological materials: white Granite (a coarse-grained igneous rock composed primarily of Quartz, Feldspar, and Mica) and Azurite (a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral, Cu₃(CO₃)₂(OH)₂, the same vivid blue mineral found in Azurite-Malachite specimens). The Granite has a hardness of approximately 6–7 on the Mohs scale; the Azurite inclusions are softer at 3.5–4. The Azurite formed as a secondary mineral within the Granite — copper-bearing hydrothermal solutions percolated through fractures and cavities in the ancient Granite, depositing Azurite in rounded, spherical nodules that create the characteristic vivid blue spots. The white Granite itself is part of the ancient Karakoram Batholith — a massive body of igneous rock that forms the geological core of the Karakoram mountain range, one of the world's great mountain systems. The juxtaposition of the crisp white Granite and the vivid blue Azurite spots is entirely natural and unique to this deposit.
