LARIMAR TUMBLE

Larimar

This breathtaking Larimar Tumble is one of the rarest and most visually stunning stones in the crystal world — its swirling patterns of sky blue, white, and turquoise evoke the colors of the Caribbean Sea and sky, and its gentle, high-vibrational energy of peace, clarity, and divine feminine wisdom makes it one of the most sought-after stones for emotional healing and spiritual connection.

Note: Larimar is found in only one place on Earth — a single mountainside in the Dominican Republic — making it one of the rarest gemstones in the world. Its supply is finite and actively being depleted. Larimar is also known as the Atlantis Stone or Dolphin Stone in the crystal community.

Where It Is Found

Larimar is found exclusively in the Barahona province of the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean — specifically in a single volcanic deposit in the mountains near the town of Bahoruco. It is one of the most geographically restricted gemstones on Earth. The stone was first officially described in 1974 by Miguel Méndez and Peace Corps volunteer Norman Rilling, who named it by combining "Larissa" (the name of Méndez's daughter) with "mar" (the Spanish word for sea). Local legend holds that pieces of Larimar were found washing up on Caribbean beaches long before the source deposit was discovered — carried down from the mountains by rivers and deposited on the shore.

Mineral Class / Geology

Larimar is a rare blue variety of Pectolite (sodium calcium silicate hydroxide, NaCa₂Si₃O₈(OH)) belonging to the Inosilicate mineral class. Its hardness is 4.5–5 on the Mohs scale — handle with care and avoid scratching. Pectolite itself is a common mineral, but the blue variety (Larimar) is found only in the Dominican Republic. Larimar forms in volcanic cavities within basaltic lava flows — specifically in the Los Chupaderos volcanic complex — where hydrothermal fluids rich in calcium and sodium deposited the Pectolite within gas cavities in the ancient lava. Its extraordinary blue color is caused by the substitution of copper for calcium within the Pectolite crystal structure — the same element responsible for the blue color of Turquoise and Chrysocolla. The swirling white patterns are caused by variations in mineral composition and crystal orientation within the stone.

Colors

Larimar displays a stunning range of sky blue, turquoise, white, and pale green — often in swirling, cloud-like or wave-like patterns that evoke the colors of the Caribbean Sea and sky. The finest quality Larimar is a deep, saturated sky blue with minimal white; lighter, more mottled pieces are more common. It has a silky to vitreous luster and is typically opaque to translucent.

Metaphysical Properties

Larimar is known as the Stone of the Sea, Divine Feminine, and Atlantean Wisdom. It is considered one of the most powerful stones for connecting with the energy of the ocean, the divine feminine, and higher spiritual wisdom. It resonates with the Throat, Heart, and Third Eye Chakras and is used to bring deep peace, calm, and emotional healing, enhance clear, loving, and authentic communication, connect with the divine feminine and goddess energy, support the release of emotional trauma and self-limiting beliefs, enhance meditation and connection to higher realms, connect with the ancient wisdom of Atlantis (in metaphysical tradition), and bring a sense of serenity, clarity, and spiritual elevation.
