RAINBOW OBSIDIAN TUMBLE

Rainbow Obsidian

This mesmerizing Rainbow Obsidian Tumble appears jet black at first glance, but when light catches it at the right angle, a breathtaking rainbow of iridescent colors — greens, blues, purples, and golds — shimmers across its surface like a hidden treasure waiting to be discovered.

Note: Rainbow Obsidian's iridescent colors are caused by thin layers of magnetite nanoparticles within the volcanic glass that diffract light, creating a phenomenon similar to the iridescence seen in soap bubbles or oil on water. The rainbow effect is only visible when light hits the stone at a specific angle.

Where It Is Found

Rainbow Obsidian is found primarily in Mexico, particularly in the state of Jalisco, which produces the finest Rainbow Obsidian specimens with the most vibrant iridescent displays.

Mineral Class / Geology

Rainbow Obsidian is a variety of Obsidian — a naturally occurring volcanic glass composed primarily of silicon dioxide (SiO₂). Its hardness is 5–5.5 on the Mohs scale. The rainbow iridescence is caused by thin layers of magnetite nanoparticles within the glass that diffract light into its spectral colors.

Colors

Rainbow Obsidian appears jet black in normal lighting, but displays a stunning iridescent rainbow of greens, blues, purples, and golds when light hits it at the right angle. The rainbow effect is most visible when the stone is held under direct light and rotated slowly.

Metaphysical Properties

Rainbow Obsidian is known as the Stone of Pleasure, Love, and Light in the Darkness. It combines Black Obsidian's protective energy with the healing, uplifting energy of the rainbow ray. It resonates with the Root and Heart Chakras and is used to gently release hooks and cords from the heart, heal emotional wounds from past relationships, bring light and hope into dark emotional states, provide gentle yet powerful protection, and remind us that beauty and light are always present, even in the darkest moments.
