Rhodonite is found in several locations worldwide, with major sources in Russia (Ural Mountains), Australia, Sweden, Brazil, Peru, Canada, and the United States (Massachusetts, where it is the official state gem).

Mineral Class / Geology

Rhodonite is a manganese inosilicate mineral (MnSiO₃) belonging to the Pyroxenoid group within the Inosilicate mineral class. Its hardness is 5.5–6.5 on the Mohs scale. It forms in manganese-rich metamorphic and metasomatic rocks. Its rose-pink color is caused by manganese, while the characteristic black veining is caused by manganese oxide (MnO) forming as the stone weathers at its surface.

Rhodonite displays a beautiful combination of rose-pink to deep red tones with distinctive black veining and patches of manganese oxide. The contrast between warm pink and bold black creates a striking, organic pattern that makes each piece completely unique.
