Mineral Class / Geology
Aragonite is a calcium carbonate mineral (CaCO₃) belonging to the Carbonate mineral class, with a hardness of 3.5–4 on the Mohs scale. It is a polymorph of Calcite — same chemical formula (CaCO₃) but a different crystal structure (orthorhombic vs. Calcite's trigonal). Aragonite forms in hydrothermal veins, hot springs, cave deposits, and marine environments. It is also the primary mineral component of mollusk shells, coral, and pearls.
