Mineral Class / Geology

Fancy Jasper is a variety of Jasper, an opaque, fine-grained form of Chalcedony (microcrystalline silicon dioxide, SiO₂) in the Tectosilicate mineral class. Its hardness is 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale. Its multicolored appearance is caused by varying concentrations of different mineral impurities — including iron oxides, chlorite, and other minerals — within the silica matrix.
