Mineral Class / Geology

Lepidolite is a phyllosilicate mineral (potassium lithium aluminum silicate) belonging to the Mica group within the Phyllosilicate mineral class. Its hardness is 2.5–3 on the Mohs scale — handle with care and avoid scratching. It forms primarily in granitic pegmatites and is one of the most important lithium-bearing minerals. Its lavender to purple color is caused by manganese impurities within its crystal structure.

Colors

Lepidolite displays soft, shimmering shades of lavender, lilac, pink-purple, and occasionally rose pink or grey-purple. Its mica-group structure gives it a distinctive sparkly, scaly appearance that is especially beautiful in freeform pieces where the polished surfaces catch and reflect light from multiple angles.
