Orca Agate

Note: Orca Agate (also known as Orca Stone) is a trade name for a variety of banded Agate or Chalcedony from Madagascar, named for its black and white coloring reminiscent of an orca whale.
Where It Is Found
Orca Agate is found in Madagascar, where it occurs in volcanic rock formations. Its distinctive high-contrast banding makes it one of the more visually striking Agate varieties from this region.
Mineral Class / Geology
Orca Agate is a variety of Chalcedony, a microcrystalline variety of Quartz (silicon dioxide, SiO₂), in the Tectosilicate mineral class. Its hardness is 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale. Its distinctive black and white banding is caused by alternating layers of differently colored Chalcedony deposited within volcanic rock cavities.
Colors
Orca Agate is characterized by its bold, high-contrast banding of black (or very dark grey) and white, sometimes with hints of grey or cream. The dramatic contrast between the dark and light bands creates a striking, graphic appearance reminiscent of an orca whale's coloring.
Metaphysical Properties
