Where It Is Found

The finest Lapis Lazuli has been mined for over 6,000 years from the Sar-e-Sang mines in Badakhshan province, Afghanistan — the same mines that supplied ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome. Mineral Class / Geology

Lapis Lazuli is a metamorphic rock composed primarily of Lazurite (blue), Calcite (white), and Pyrite (golden). It has a hardness of 5–6 on the Mohs scale. It forms through contact metamorphism of limestone. The golden flecks are pyrite inclusions; the white patches are calcite.

Colors

Lapis Lazuli displays a deep, royal blue to violet-blue base color flecked with golden pyrite inclusions and white calcite patches. The heart shape beautifully frames this striking night-sky-like pattern.
