Mineral Class / Geology

Red Jasper is a variety of Jasper, an opaque, fine-grained form of Chalcedony (microcrystalline SiO₂) in the Tectosilicate mineral class. Its hardness is 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale. Its rich red color is caused by iron oxide (hematite) inclusions within the microcrystalline Quartz matrix.

Colors

Red Jasper ranges from brick red and terracotta to deep, rich crimson. It is opaque with a smooth, waxy luster when polished. Some specimens display subtle banding or veining that makes each piece unique.
