Rose Quartz belongs to the Quartz mineral family (silicon dioxide, SiO₂) and is part of the Tectosilicate mineral class. It forms in pegmatites and hydrothermal veins, typically occurring in massive form rather than well-defined crystals. Its hardness is 7 on the Mohs scale, making it a durable and widely used gemstone. The pink color is believed to be caused by trace amounts of titanium, iron, or manganese, or by microscopic inclusions of a pink borosilicate mineral called dumortierite.

Colors

Rose Quartz ranges in color from very pale, almost white pink to deep, rosy pink. The most common shades are soft, translucent pastel pinks. Some specimens display a phenomenon called asterism (a star effect) when cut into cabochons, known as Star Rose Quartz. The color can sometimes fade with prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
