Mineral Class / Geology

Carnelian is a variety of Chalcedony (microcrystalline silicon dioxide, SiO₂) in the Tectosilicate mineral class, with a hardness of 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale. Its warm orange to red color is caused by iron oxide (hematite) impurities within the Chalcedony matrix. It forms in the cavities of basaltic volcanic rocks and sedimentary deposits.

Colors

Carnelian displays a warm spectrum of orange, red-orange, and reddish-brown — from pale peach and honey orange to deep, saturated blood red. The broad, polished surface of a palm stone beautifully showcases these warm, fiery tones and natural color gradients.
