Hematoid Fire Quartz is found primarily in Madagascar (the primary commercial source of the vivid red-orange variety most popular in the crystal market), Brazil, and other locations where iron-rich hydrothermal fluids have interacted with Quartz formations.

Mineral Class / Geology

Hematoid Fire Quartz is a variety of Quartz (silicon dioxide, SiO₂) in the Tectosilicate mineral class, with a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. Its vivid red-orange color is caused by inclusions of Hematite (iron oxide, Fe₂O₃) distributed throughout the interior of the Quartz crystal — either as fine particles, platelets, or larger inclusions — that were incorporated during crystal growth from iron-rich hydrothermal fluids. When light passes through the Quartz, it illuminates the Hematite inclusions from within, creating the characteristic fiery, glowing appearance. The point form focuses and directs this combined energy with precision.
