LAPIS LAZULI SPHERE
Lapis Lazuli
This magnificent Lapis Lazuli Sphere radiates the ancient wisdom and truth-speaking power of one of history's most revered stones equally in all directions — its deep royal blue, golden pyrite stars, and white calcite clouds create a breathtaking, night-sky-like display that makes it one of the most visually stunning spheres available.
Where It Is Found
The finest Lapis Lazuli has been mined for over 6,000 years from the Sar-e-Sang mines in Badakhshan province, Afghanistan — the same mines that supplied ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome. Afghanistan remains the world's premier source today. Other sources include Russia, Chile, Pakistan, and the United States.
Mineral Class / Geology
Lapis Lazuli is a metamorphic rock composed primarily of Lazurite (blue), Calcite (white), and Pyrite (golden). It has a hardness of 5–6 on the Mohs scale. It forms through contact metamorphism of limestone. The golden flecks are pyrite inclusions; the white patches are calcite. The sphere form showcases the full complexity of Lapis Lazuli's three-mineral composition from every angle.
Colors
Lapis Lazuli displays a deep, royal blue to violet-blue base color flecked with golden pyrite inclusions and white calcite patches. In sphere form, the full 360° surface reveals the complete, uninterrupted beauty of this extraordinary stone's night-sky-like pattern.
