Note: Most Citrine sold commercially — including this piece — is heat-treated Amethyst or Smoky Quartz that has been gently heated to produce the golden-yellow color. This is a widely accepted and disclosed industry practice. Natural Citrine (untreated) is rarer and typically paler in color. Both forms share the same metaphysical properties.

Where It Is Found

The majority of commercial Citrine is produced in Brazil, where Amethyst is heat-treated to create the golden-yellow color. Natural Citrine is found in smaller quantities in Brazil, Madagascar, Russia, France, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Mineral Class / Geology

Citrine is a variety of Quartz (silicon dioxide, SiO₂) in the Tectosilicate mineral class. Its hardness is 7 on the Mohs scale, making it highly durable. Its golden-yellow color is caused by iron impurities within the Quartz structure. In heat-treated Citrine, the color change occurs when Amethyst or Smoky Quartz is heated to approximately 470–560°C, converting the iron impurities to a form that produces yellow rather than purple or grey color.

Colors

Citrine ranges from pale lemon yellow to deep amber and burnt orange. Heat-treated Citrine tends toward deeper, more saturated oranges and ambers, while natural Citrine is typically a paler, more delicate yellow. It is transparent to translucent with a vitreous luster.

Metaphysical Properties

Citrine is known as the Merchant's Stone and the Stone of Abundance, Manifestation, and Joy. It is one of only two crystals that never needs cleansing, as it does not hold negative energy — it transmutes, dissipates, and grounds it.
