Mineral Class / Geology

Green Aventurine is a variety of Quartz (silicon dioxide, SiO₂) in the Tectosilicate mineral class, with a hardness of 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale. It belongs to the Aventurine family — a form of microcrystalline or granular Quartz characterized by a sparkling, glittery optical effect known as aventurescence, caused by light reflecting off tiny plate-like mineral inclusions within the Quartz matrix. In Green Aventurine, this aventurescence is produced by inclusions of fuchsite (a chromium-rich variety of muscovite mica), which give the stone its characteristic green color and sparkling shimmer. Aventurine forms in metamorphic and igneous rocks, typically in association with other quartz-rich formations.

Green Aventurine displays a fresh, medium to deep green color with a subtle sparkling aventurescence — a glittery shimmer caused by its fuchsite mica inclusions. It is typically translucent to opaque with a waxy to vitreous luster. The green color can range from a pale mint to a rich, saturated forest green depending on the concentration of fuchsite inclusions.
