Blue Tiger Eye
This captivating Blue Tiger Eye Tumble — also known as Hawk's Eye — displays the same mesmerizing chatoyancy as Golden Tiger Eye but in cool, mysterious shades of blue and grey, evoking the sharp, far-seeing vision of a hawk soaring high above the earth.
Note: Blue Tiger Eye (Hawk's Eye) is the rarer, less oxidized form of Tiger Eye. It retains more of the original blue-grey color of Crocidolite (the fibrous mineral that Tiger Eye replaces) before iron oxidation turns it golden-brown. It is sometimes called Falcon's Eye or Hawk's Eye.
Where It Is Found
Blue Tiger Eye is found primarily in South Africa, the same region that produces Golden Tiger Eye, as well as in smaller quantities in Australia, India, and Burma. It is less common than Golden Tiger Eye due to its less oxidized state.
Mineral Class / Geology
Blue Tiger Eye is a variety of Quartz (silicon dioxide, SiO₂) in the Tectosilicate mineral class, with a hardness of 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale. Like all Tiger Eye, it forms through pseudomorphism — where Quartz replaces the fibrous mineral Crocidolite while preserving its parallel fibrous structure. Blue Tiger Eye retains more of the original blue-grey Crocidolite color because it has undergone less iron oxidation than Golden Tiger Eye.
Colors
Blue Tiger Eye displays cool, mysterious bands of blue, blue-grey, and dark grey — all shimmering with the same silky, moving chatoyancy as Golden Tiger Eye. The blue tones can range from a deep navy to a lighter steel blue, often with hints of green-grey, and the chatoyancy creates a beautiful, shifting depth within the stone.
