Where It Is Found

Blue Lace Agate is found primarily in Namibia, South Africa, where it was first discovered in the 1960s. It is also found in smaller quantities in Romania, China, and Brazil. High-quality Blue Lace Agate with its characteristic delicate blue banding is relatively rare and highly prized.

Mineral Class / Geology

Blue Lace Agate is a variety of Chalcedony, a microcrystalline variety of Quartz (silicon dioxide, SiO₂), in the Tectosilicate mineral class. Its hardness is 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale. Its distinctive pale blue and white banding is caused by trace amounts of minerals deposited in alternating layers within volcanic rock cavities over thousands of years.

Blue Lace Agate is characterized by its delicate, lacy bands of pale sky blue, white, and sometimes soft lavender or grey. The banding creates a gentle, flowing pattern reminiscent of lace fabric, giving this stone its distinctive and beloved appearance.
