Where It Is Found

Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral (Cu₂(CO₃)(OH)₂) in the Carbonate mineral class, with a hardness of 3.5–4 on the Mohs scale. Its vivid green color is caused by copper. Dolomite is a calcium magnesium carbonate mineral (CaMg(CO₃)₂) also in the Carbonate mineral class, with a hardness of 3.5–4 on the Mohs scale. Dolomite forms the host rock or matrix within which Malachite crystallizes in copper ore deposit oxidation zones. The white to cream Dolomite provides a stunning natural backdrop that makes the vivid green Malachite stand out dramatically.
