HEMATITE TUMBLE

Hematite

This powerful Hematite Tumble is one of the most grounding and protective stones in the crystal world — its dense, metallic weight and mirror-like silver-grey surface make it immediately distinctive, and its deeply anchoring energy makes it an exceptional companion for anyone who needs to feel more rooted, focused, and protected in their daily life.

Where It Is Found

Hematite is one of the most abundant iron oxide minerals on Earth, found worldwide in a wide variety of geological environments. Major sources of the polished Hematite used in the crystal market include Brazil (one of the world's largest producers), China, Morocco, Australia (the Pilbara region, home to some of the world's largest iron ore deposits), United Kingdom (Cumberland, historically famous for its "kidney ore" Hematite), and the United States. Hematite is also found on Mars — the planet's distinctive red color is caused by iron oxide (Hematite and related minerals) on its surface, earning Mars the nickname "The Red Planet."

Mineral Class / Geology

Hematite is an iron oxide mineral (Fe₂O₃) belonging to the Oxide mineral class, with a hardness of 5–6 on the Mohs scale. It is one of the most important iron ore minerals on Earth and has been mined for iron production for thousands of years. Hematite forms in a wide variety of geological environments including hydrothermal veins, sedimentary banded iron formations (BIFs), metamorphic rocks, and as a weathering product of other iron-bearing minerals. Its name comes from the Greek haima, meaning "blood" — a reference to the distinctive blood-red streak it leaves when scratched across an unglazed porcelain surface (a key identification test), and to the red color of powdered Hematite, which has been used as a pigment (red ochre) by humans for over 300,000 years — making it one of the oldest known pigments used by our species. Despite its silver-grey metallic appearance in polished form, Hematite's streak and powder are always red. It is also the mineral responsible for the red color of Mars.

Colors

Polished Hematite displays a striking silver-grey to black metallic color with a brilliant, mirror-like luster. In its raw, unpolished form it can appear red, brown, or black. Its streak is always blood red — a key identifying characteristic.

Metaphysical Properties

Hematite is known as the Stone of Grounding, Protection, and Strength. It is one of the most powerful grounding and protective stones in the crystal kingdom, with a dense, anchoring energy that immediately connects one to the Earth. It resonates with the Root Chakra and is used to provide powerful grounding and connection to the Earth, create a strong protective shield against negative energies, enhance focus, concentration, and mental clarity, boost courage, strength, and willpower, support the transmutation of negative energy into positive, enhance logical thinking and problem-solving, and bring a sense of calm, stability, and centered strength.
