MAHOGANY OBSIDIAN TUMBLE
MAHOGANY OBSIDIAN TUMBLE
Mahogany Obsidian
This warm, grounding Mahogany Obsidian Tumble combines the deep protective energy of Black Obsidian with the earthy, vitalizing energy of iron oxide — its rich mahogany-red and black patterns make it one of the most visually striking and energetically grounding Obsidian varieties.
Where It Is Found
Mahogany Obsidian is found primarily in Mexico and the United States (particularly Oregon), where it forms in volcanic lava flows containing iron oxide inclusions.
Mineral Class / Geology
Mahogany Obsidian is a variety of Obsidian — a naturally occurring volcanic glass composed primarily of silicon dioxide (SiO₂) with inclusions of iron oxide (hematite or magnetite). Its hardness is 5–5.5 on the Mohs scale. The distinctive mahogany-red and brown patterns are caused by iron oxide inclusions within the black volcanic glass matrix.
Colors
Mahogany Obsidian displays a striking combination of deep jet black and rich mahogany-red to reddish-brown patterns — the black areas are pure volcanic glass while the red-brown areas contain iron oxide inclusions. The contrast between the two colors creates bold, organic patterns that make each piece unique.
Metaphysical Properties
Mahogany Obsidian is known as the Stone of Strength, Vitality, and Gentle Protection. It carries a warmer, gentler energy than pure Black Obsidian, combining protection with grounding vitality. It resonates with the Root and Sacral Chakras and is used to provide grounding and protection without the intensity of pure Black Obsidian, release feelings of unworthiness and self-limitation, strengthen and vitalize the physical body, remove energy blockages and stimulate growth, and offer a gentle yet effective shield against negative energies.
