Fluorite is a halide mineral (calcium fluoride, CaF₂) and belongs to the Halide mineral class. Its hardness is 4 on the Mohs scale — handle with care and avoid scratching. Fluorite is one of the most colorful minerals in the world, and its wide range of colors is caused by impurities, exposure to radiation, and crystal lattice defects during formation. It forms in hydrothermal veins and as a gangue mineral in ore deposits.
